Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about ordering 3D prints and custom design from RentMyPrinter.

Frequently Asked Questions

What file types do you accept?

Upload STL or 3MF files using the print form. If you don't have a file, send photos, measurements or a sketch through the design form and I'll quote a printable model.

How accurate is the quote estimate?

The estimator reads your STL or 3MF file and uses its geometry to estimate the printing cost. If a file can't be measured reliably, it uses a starting estimate for review. The calculation considers: Material — your model's volume converted to grams for the material you chose, since PLA and PETG have different densities, plus the filament lost to purging and priming Print time — worked out from that weight, plus the fixed time at the start of every print for bed heating and the first layers Machine time — what it costs to run the printer for those hours: power, wear and maintenance Hands-on time — setting up the plate, removing the part, cleaning it up and packing it Color — whether what you picked is in stock, because a color I don't stock means buying a spool for your order Packaging and card processing fees The instant estimate already includes the one-time setup & slicing fee. Brian reviews every file and sends your final quote, usually within 24 hours. Only the actual grams and print time can change after review — setup isn't charged again. So for a straightforward single part the estimate is usually within a few dollars. For something with big overhangs, several separate pieces, or multiple colors, treat it as a starting point. What it can't see: the exact support material needed underneath overhangs or the best orientation on the bed. Brian checks those when reviewing your file; they can change the actual grams and print time. Either way, nothing is charged until you've seen the final price and said yes.

Why would my final price be different from the estimate?

Only the actual grams and print time can change after Brian reviews your file, for example when support material or a different print orientation is needed. The instant estimate already includes the one-time setup & slicing fee. I'll explain any change before you pay — and if the final quote doesn't work for you, there's no obligation to go ahead.

How do local delivery and meetups work?

We're based in Escondido. After your print is complete, we'll arrange local delivery or a free local meetup. Customers cannot pick up at our home.

How long does printing take?

Most prints are ready within 24–48 hours. Complex or large prints may take longer — we'll give you an estimated timeline when we confirm your order.

Do you offer multiple colors?

Yes! We print in both PLA and PETG. PLA is stocked in white, black, red, blue, green, yellow, orange, gray, and brown, and PETG is available in a range of colors — just pick your material and color in the order form. Special-order colors cost an extra $15 per color, shown before you submit.

Should I choose PLA or PETG?

PLA — best for models, props, display pieces and indoor use. PETG — heat, UV and impact resistant. Choose this for anything that lives in a car, outdoors, or has to take a load.

What's your minimum order?

$20 minimum per order, before the one-time setup & slicing fee and tax. Printing more than one thing? Add every file to the same project — the minimum and setup fee each apply once. Your instant estimate already includes setup & slicing; it isn't added again in the final quote.

Can you print multiple copies?

Absolutely. Just set the quantity in the order form.
